Unbridled Fire: Riding into the Year of the Horse

February 11, 2026

by RajaWellness

According to the lunar calendar, 2026 ushers in the Year of the Fire Horse, a powerful combination that carries momentum, passion, and forward movement. In Chinese medicine, the Horse is associated with freedom, vitality, and motion—while Fire brings warmth, intensity, and heart-centered energy. As the "Emperor" of all organs, the heart houses the Shen (spirit), which governs emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being.

Altogether, this year asks us to move boldly, but also to stay deeply connected to what fuels us from within.

From an acupuncturist’s perspective, Fire Horse years often show up in the clinic as a mix of inspiration and overextension. I tend to see more patients feeling “lit up” with ideas, motivation, and big plans—alongside symptoms like restlessness, poor sleep, anxiety, heart palpitations, or burnout! Fire governs the Heart in Chinese medicine, which is not only responsible for circulation, but also for joy, connection, and our ability to feel at ease in our lives.

When Fire is balanced, we feel vibrant and engaged. When it runs unchecked, we can feel scattered or depleted.

Personally, I’ve learned to respect Fire Horse energy rather than resist it. It’s a wonderful time to take meaningful risks, initiate change, and recommit to what truly matters—but it’s not a year to ignore rest, nourishment, or emotional boundaries. In my own life, Fire Horse years remind me to schedule pauses with the same intention I schedule action. Acupuncture, breathwork, time in nature, and simple routines become essential anchors!

As we continue into 2026, my hope—for myself and for my patients—is to harness the courage and momentum of the Fire Horse while staying rooted in balance. Let this be a year where we move forward with clarity, tend to the heart, and remember that sustainable energy always comes from alignment, not constant motion!

A balanced Shen leads to emotional security, clarity, and the ability to give and receive love. Some simple ideas I recommend to focus on are:

  • Emotional Balance: Practices like heart-focused breathing and Qi Gong can help process stored emotional tension and anxiety.
  • Heart-Nourishing Foods: Foods associated with the Fire element and bitter flavor—such as red dates, goji berries, dark leafy greens, and ginger—support the heart!
  • Self-Love: Incorporating meditation, breathwork, herbal baths, and journaling helps cultivate emotional clarity and self-compassion.

Unbridled: Welcoming the Fire Horse Year of Courage & Core Values with our new course

Our NEW upcoming core values course, called Unbridled, is intentionally positioned for the Lunar New Year, not the calendar New Year (January 1st). This choice is based on energetic and psychological alignment.

The Lunar New Year (which falls in February) is chosen as a starting point for our deep-work program because it is an energetically cleaner time for change than the calendar New Year. Before implementing this practice for myself, I always felt rushed trying to review my past year's progress and put together goals for the coming year. Shifting my timing allows me to be more present with my family and friends during the holiday season and use the quieter weeks of January to complete this process (And in years like this, where our winter weather derails our plans and forces us indoors more than normal, I have a practice to focus on instead of going stir-crazy!)

This year, I am taking the process a step further and creating a tool that can be used at any point to revisit your goals, progress, and vision throughout the year—whenever needed. Those of you who sign up for this first iteration as we mount up for the coming Fire Horse year of 2026 will have the opportunity to participate live in this process with weekly online group coaching sessions and personalized feedback. Values-based goals are a huge part of what I work with my coaching clients on developing and learning how to listen to the signals from their body to know when they are aligned with their values (and when they are off-track).

Calendar New Year vs. Lunar New Year for Change

FeatureCalendar New Year (January)Lunar New Year (February/March)
Energetic SeasonDeepest Winter, Hiding/Rest (Water Element)Approaching Spring, Emergence/Growth (Wood Element)
Psychological ClimateCluttered with holiday debt, social pressure, and performative goals.Less pressure, post-holiday stillness, time for honest reflection.
Suitability for ActionForcing action against the body's natural impulse to rest.Naturally aligned with the energetic movement toward growth and change.

The Lunar New Year is a less cluttered time, allowing for the honest reflection needed to start a values-based process. Energetically, it is closer to the coming energy of spring, which is better suited to growth and change!
