June is PTSD Awareness Month. For many, this month is a passing reminder on a calendar. But for veterans, survivors of trauma, and those who have walked that path, PTSD is a daily, relentless reality.
As a veteran and a care provider, PTSD Awareness Month is deeply personal to me. I know firsthand that trauma does not just live in our memories—it takes up residence in our bodies. It alters our nervous system, locking us into a perpetual state of "fight or flight." Over the last decade of our practice here in Kentucky, I have seen how this deeply rooted systemic stress can manifest: as debilitating chronic pain, profound sleep disruption, and, too often, a heavy reliance on medications just to numb the noise and get through the day.
But there is a path forward that doesn't require living pill-to-pill. Healing is possible when we address the whole system.

Rewiring the Nervous System with Acupuncture
Conventional treatments often separate the mind and the body, but in Traditional Chinese Medicine, we know they are intimately connected. When a patient comes into the clinic dealing with the aftermath of trauma, our primary goal is to coax the nervous system out of that “high alert”.
Targeted acupuncture protocols are incredibly effective at this. By stimulating specific pathways, we help the body release natural endorphins, lower systemic inflammation, and physically release the tension and chronic pain that trauma leaves behind in the fascia and muscles. For many veterans and trauma survivors, regular acupuncture is a crucial step in safely reducing their dependence on high-dose pain and anxiety medications, allowing them to finally experience a sense of physical safety in their own bodies.
The PTSD Relief Project: Healing Beyond the Therapy Room
While the clinic is where much of the physical healing begins, true recovery often requires stepping out of the therapy room and reconnecting with the world.
That is why I founded The PTSD Relief Project, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to providing non-traditional, holistic approaches to helping PTSD for veterans and trauma survivors. We know that the standard clinical model isn't enough for everyone, which is why we focus on expanding access to care that resonates with our community.

Through the PTSD Relief Project, we provide access (at no cost) to survivors who need it the most:
Whether it is finding quiet relief on the acupuncture table or rebuilding a sense of peace working alongside a horse, our mission is to ensure no one has to navigate the aftermath of trauma alone.
You Are Not Alone
If you or a loved one is struggling with the lingering effects of trauma, chronic pain, or the side effects of medication dependence, please know there are holistic, supportive options available.

This June, we are asking for your support to help us reach more veterans and survivors who are suffering in silence. Your donation directly funds life-changing equine therapy sessions and supportive clinical care for those who need it most.
Thank you for helping us provide lasting hope and healing to our community.
