A novel quercetin formula, created for anti-histamine and anti-allergy support and upper respiratory relief with superior bioavailability in mind.*

Our Quercetin C MCT™ formula contains quercetin dihydrate, fat-soluble vitamin C as well as a powdered extract of Medium Chain Triglycerides (MCTs) to assist absorption and create a liposomal-like effect.*

Numerous clinical studies how Quercetin’s effectiveness in ameliorating symptoms of allergies and upper respiratory distress [1]. Vitamin C is commonly known for its effective anti-bacterial and anti-viral support. Furthermore, many plant polyphenols, including Quercetin, have showed increased solubility in oils and better intestinal absorbency [9]. The presence MCT oil powder extract aims to allow for absorption similar to liposomal.*

Put together, the ingredients of the formula are thus designed to allow a fast absorption and support combating symptoms of seasonal allergies and upper respiratory problems related to the irritation of nasopharyngeal mucosa.*

What Does the Science Say?

Quercetin

Quercetin is a polyphenol present naturally in many foods, especially vegetables, fruits, wines and herbs [2]. In particular, onions, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, apples, berries, red wines and certain herbs are all potent sources of Quercetin. It is a very effective antioxidant and free radical scavenger [8]. In addition, it has powerful anti-allergic, anti-histamine and anti-inflammatory characteristics [1]. Quercetin has also shown cardiovascular, anti-diabetic, anti-viral, anti-hypertensive protection.

Physiologically, Qurecetin inhibits histamine release, decreases pro-inflammatory cytokines production and suppresses the   formation of antigen-specific IgE antibodies, Cyclooxigenase (COX) Lipooxygenase LOX) enzymes, eosinophil and other pro-inflammatory mediators.

Many clinical studies have demonstrated Quercetin’s benefits in prevention and amelioration of symptoms in conditions such as asthma, COPD, allergic rhinitis and many other ailments [1].

Researchers from Michigan State University observed a significant reduction of CRP and other pro-inflammatory mediators levels in study subjects taking Quercetin versus placebo [8]. In another study, a four-fold increase plasma levels of Quercetin in patients supplementing the compound demonstrated  a significant reduction of COPD symptoms and progression of the disease versus placebo group [10].

A Japanese study on rats with induced allergic rhinitis also showed a significant reduction of the symptoms with supplementation of 25mg/kg for 7 days and overall improvement of upper respiratory mucosa [7].

Vitamin C

Vitamin C (S-ascorbic palmitate) is an essential nutrient for human body and one of the most researched of all vitamins. It can not be created naturally in the body (because of the lack of a key enzyme in biosynthetic pathway necessary its synthesis). Vitamin C supports most of the body’s vital functions and it’s deficiency may have serious effects on ones overall health (impaired immunity and decreased resistance to infections). It is also a very potent antioxidant and cofactor in many biosynthetic and gene regulatory pathways .

Supplementation of Vitamin C can have beneficial effects against systemic and upper respiratory infections [11].

On a cellular level, Vitamin C is also important cofactor in the biosynthesis of Carnitine and collagen – molecules crucial for the transportation of fatty acids into the mitochondria for generating ATP or collagen synthesis.

MCT Oil Powder

Medium Chain Triglycerides (MCT) are fatty acids naturally present in many foods. One of the most abundant sources of MCT is coconut oil, containing over 60% of MCT.

Because of their short chain structure, MCTs are quickly absorbed and metabolised by the liver and utilised by the body [3]. They also promote the production of ketones, a favorite source of energy for the brain’s and muscles’ tissues. Consequently, calories from MCTs are normally used more efficiently for energy production than calories from glucose and are therefore less likely to turn into adipose tissue (body fat).

Chemically, MCTs are mainly made up of fatty acids Capric Acid C6, Caprillic Acid C8, Capric Acid C10 and Lauric Acid C12. Caprillic Acid C8 and Capric Acid C10 usually convert faster into ketones (and thus utilised by our mitochondria as an efficient energy source). Our MCT powder extract is based on a combination of these two fatty acids.

In addition to boosting the absorption (bioavailability) of certain compounds, MCTs can have benefits on their own:

  • Support and improve cognitive functions [12,13]
  • Support atherosclerosis prevention and a healthy lipid metabolism
  • Support the immune system; and
  • Increase energy levels and physical endurance

Thanks to their rapid transformation into ketones, MCTs can also help to support a leaner body mass.
